150 — Kansas was officially named admitted to statehood Jan. 29, 1861 — 150 years ago Saturday, though the military post now known as Fort Leavenworth was founded in 1827.

7 — The Leavenworth Public Library began hosting a week’s worth of Kansas Day programs and activities Saturday with Joan Stone of the University of Kansas presenting “Traditional Dances of Contemporary Kansas.” On Monday, the library hosted a Kansas cupcake decorating activity.

245.2 million — In 2009, the state of Kansas produced 245.2 million pounds of agricultural sunflowers, according to the Kansas Department of Agriculture.
