In 1995, William Brown was a singer with a major label recording contract, traveling all over the world to entertain crowds.

More than a decade later he’s still singing, only it’s on his own independent label, Prayer Warrior Records. Instead of the secular R&B music he was performing, Brown now uses his music to spread a Christian message.

He also adopted the middle name “Kai,” a Swahili word that Brown said means “love.”

When he isn’t performing as a solo artist, Brown said he is the youth minister at St. James Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Leavenworth, where he has headed up the Kai Ministries program since about 1997.
