A Leavenworth man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for the attempted murder of his mother and her common law husband and threatening a police officer.
Brett Allen Burns, 28, was sentenced Wednesday in two cases.
The first case involved two counts of attempted second-degree murder.
In the early morning hours of Jan. 21, 2008, Burns choked his mother, Sandra Deere, at her Leavenworth home. Burns also stabbed her common law husband, Joel Johnson, with a broken piece of a toilet plunger handle, according to testimony given during an earlier preliminary hearing.
