Despite a small setback caused by an infection, two Australians are spending this week taking in the sights, sounds and experiences of northeast Kansas.

Sally Taber, Miss Wagga Wagga 2009, and Nikola Clark, Wagga Wagga Community Princess, arrived in town on Sunday as official representatives from Leavenworth’s sister city in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, Australia.

Although they have both visited the United States before, this is the first time Taber and Clark have visited the Midwest.

Clark first visited the states about 10 years ago while on a family vacation along the West Coast.

“It’s beautiful, I love it,” Clark said in reference to the Midwest. “It’s so much more friendlier.”

“It’s great, it’s beautiful,” Taber said when asked about her first impression. “The people are so friendly.”
