A preliminary hearing has been continued in the case of a Leavenworth woman charged with endangering her late son.

The hearing for Monica F. Rivera, 28, was continued Friday in Leavenworth County District Court. A new preliminary hearing date was not set, but a status conference was scheduled for Dec. 16.

Rivera is charged with aggravated endangering a child. She is accused of recklessly allowing her 4-year-old son, Gabriel, to be placed at risk of injury or death.

The crime is alleged to have occurred between Feb. 1 and Oct. 4.

The boy died Oct. 4 at a Leavenworth hospital. Jason L. Jones, who was living with Rivera at the time, has been charged with first-degree felony murder in connection with the child’s death.

The prosecution and defense were said to have been making a joint request for Friday’s continuance.
