Members of the Leavenworth Board of Education have scheduled a public hearing to take up a proposal for closing schools.
District officials plan to close Howard Wilson, Muncie, Ben Day and Nettie Hartnett elementary schools as well as the North Broadway School building and Abeles Field.
The hearing will be held during a Dec. 14 board meeting. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the school district’s administration building, 200 N. Fourth St., according to a public notice approved Monday by board members.
Board members previously have announced plans to close schools as part of a $57.8-million bond issue that was passed by voters last year.
“The law still requires a public hearing to close a building,” board president John Chapman said.
