Leavenworth police officials were waiting Thursday morning to hear a dollar figure for items taken during a burglary at the local Kmart store.

Police Chief Pat Kitchens said store officials were working to come up with the exact value.

Kitchens said he didn’t how many items were taken but the burglar or burglars seemed to focus on electronics.

The burglary was reported at 6:20 a.m. Wednesday but occurred sometime the night before while the store, located at 4820 S. Fourth St., was closed.

Kitchens said the culprit or culprits apparently broke in through doors on the south side of the building that lead to an area where Sears merchandise is located.

Kitchens said police recovered blood and fingerprint evidence from the store.

He said police also were working with a Kmart regional security supervisor to obtain surveillance camera video from the store.

Kitchens said the building has an alarm system but authorities had not determined why the alarm apparently did not work the night of burglary.
