Leavenworth County, Kan. -

A county law enforcement official is cautioning people about a possible scam involving a person asking for money for the delivery of a package.

Undersheriff Ron Cranor said authorities have been looking into a call made to a Leavenworth County woman.

The woman was asked to send $100 to pay for a UPS delivery. Cranor said it later was determined UPS officials knew nothing about a delivery to the woman.

Cranor said the person who contacted the woman provided a number to call regarding the package.

“And it goes into a voice mailbox,” he said.

He said it’s believed the number is a Jamaican phone number.

Cranor suggested people be suspicious for requests for money for products they haven’t ordered.

“If you didn’t order it, if you didn’t buy it, don’t give any money,” he said.
