Leavenworth public school officials have recommended adopting the same mascot and school colors for the entire district.
The recommendation to use Leavenworth High School’s team name of Pioneers and school colors of blue and white for all district buildings came Monday during a meeting of the Leavenworth Board of Education.
Superintendent Kelly Harris said the recommendation was from a committee of administrators.
Harris said officials want to look at changing a logo used by the high school to make it more friendly for elementary students.
The logo features mascot Pioneer Pete.
Amy Sloan, human resources director for the district, said a musket held by the mascot in the logo may be removed in the redesign and possibly replaced with something such as a flag.
Board vice president Loyal Torkelson said the adoption of a single mascot and set of school colors will help people pull together in the district.
“We need more spirit,” he said.
