A 4-year-old boy was taken to the hospital after he was hit by a vehicle Tuesday evening in Lansing, a police spokesman said.
The accident was reported at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 300 block of Brookwood Street.
“Two children were playing basketball in their driveway,” Lansing Police Chief Steve Wayman said.
The ball apparently went into the street. The 4-year-old boy went into the street to retrieve it. He was struck by a westbound 2001 Ford Escape, according to Wayman.
The boy was transported to Children’s Mercy Hospital, Kansas City, Mo. Wayman did not know the extent of the boy’s injuries.
The Escape was driven by a 19-year-old Leavenworth woman. Wayman believes the woman was ticketed for allegations of speeding and inattentive driving.
