JR Waymire, (90), passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at 5 a.m. in his home attended by his daughter after suffering pneumonia and congestive heart failure.

JR Waymire, (90), passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at 5 a.m. in his home attended by his daughter after suffering pneumonia and congestive heart failure. Growing up he lived in Ottawa, Kan. with his parents Olin Washington Waymire and Thelma Grace (Davis) Waymire. He is survived by his sister Shirley (Bill) Gloy, his brother Charles (Zondra) Waymire, and sister-in-law Norma Waymire. He married Rosemary Certain Waymire (deceased 2012) on September 2, 1945 and was married a blessed 67 years. JR was an Eagle Scout and a cheerleader at Ottawa High School. JR attended KU for two years. He also was a Lieutenant in World War II. JR and Rosemary resided in Lawrence for 19 years and then moved to Leavenworth. They opened their first of five grocery stores, Waymire's IGA, at 1703 10th Ave. They had three children, Nanci Lyn Clark, John Waymire, and Ronald Alan Waymire (deceased 1979). They have two grandchildren; Matthew and wife, Jessica Waymire, their daughters Jocelyn and Darcy; Ashley and husband, Josh Whitsel, their daughters Elizabeth, Priscilla, and son Josh Jr. JR and Rosemary belonged to the First Christian Church in Leavenworth and he was an Elder. JR was in the Masonic Lodge and was a Jester. JR was an avid KU Basketball fan. He and Rosemary had basketball season tickets and traveled to Lawrence for years. JR was also an avid golfer and won several Member Guest Tournaments at the Leavenworth Country Club. Formerly he was the Chairman of the Board of Citizens Savings and Loan Association. He was upbeat and optimistic and never met a stranger. JR is walking with God now holding Rosemary's hand.  
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Davis Funeral Chapel.
Memorial Service will be 3 p.m. Sunday, February 12, 2017 at First Christian Church, 130 North 6th Street Leavenworth, KS 66048.Contributions can be made to First Christian Church.
