Keene Saxon, Jr., 78, died May 11, 2017, in Leavenworth, with his family at his side.
Born Aug. 19, 1938, in Topeka, Kan., he had lived in the Leavenworth area since 1987. He worked as a construction inspector for the City of Overland Park for about 20 years before retiring in 2003. He previously worked for Broadway Industries and Black and Veatch in the Kansas City Area, and for Santa Clara County in San Jose, California. He served in the U.S. Army for 10 years.
He was a member of the Fort Leavenworth Fox Hunt and the Miami County Trail Riders. He was certified by the Santa Clara County five-year Construction Inspection Training Program. He was also a certified farrier and considered a master farrier with several decades of experience.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Col. Keene and Pauline (Utz) Saxon Sr., and sister, Cynthia Saxon, Pacific Grove, Calif. He is survived by his wife, Susan Saxon (Leavenworth, Kan.), two sons and a daughter-in-law, Keene and Melissa Saxon III (Spring Hill, Kan.), and Luke Saxon (Colorado Springs, Colo.); and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, at the Davis Funeral Chapel, 531 Shawnee St., Leavenworth, with funeral services at noon Saturday, also at the Davis Funeral Chapel. Friends are invited to join the family for a meal following the funeral at the Metropolitan Steakhouse, 1501 Metropolitan Ave, Leavenworth.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Asana Hospice and Palliative Care, 13002 State Line Road, Leawood, KS 66209.
