Ellen Marguerite Dougherty, 79, went home to Heaven, June 8, 2017. She was born Oct. 22, 1937, in Leavenworth, the daughter of Landon Jr. and Mable Louise (Johnson) Jackson.
She attended Lincoln grade school, Leavenworth High School, and Emporia State Teacher’s College. Her lifelong work was a Civilian Personnel Specialist on Fort Leavenworth. Her lifelong passion was mentoring, teaching and coaching. Through this passion she positively impacted the lives of so many in Leavenworth, teaching valuable life lessons on and off the playing field.
As reflected by her license plate that reads “FAMILY”, Ellen Dougherty was the heart and soul of the Dougherty family. Her powerful example of love, inclusion, service to others, and ability to empower young people touched the lives of so many in the community. Her legacy of family extends well beyond her six children and will be forever felt through her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and every person she has ever breathed belief into.
She is survived by her siblings, Ludie Hubert, Arlene Johnson and James Jackson. She leaves behind a loving family including her son Kenneth W. Dougherty (Mary) of Leavenworth; son Michael E. Dougherty (Adrienne) of Leavenworth; son Lawrence D. Dougherty (Tanja) of Yukon, Okla.; daughters, Lisa M. Dougherty and Kelly J. Dougherty of Buford, Ga.; Trent Richardson of Leavenworth; daughter-in-law, Patti Dougherty of Fort Worth, Texas; sister-in-law, Emma Dougherty; brother-in-law, Patrick Dougherty (Pearlie) of Memphis, Tenn.; grandchildren, Jeffrey and Brandon Dougherty, grandchildren, Megan Murry (Nile) with four great-grandchildren, Mykel, Maddox, Myles and Mason; Neil Patrick Dougherty (Mallory) with two great-grandchildren, Willow and Isla; Ryan Dougherty (Abby) with one great-grandchild, Nyah; Tony, Colin, Payton and Mya Dougherty; Jordan and Jaron Stallworth; honorary grandchildren, Xavier and Christopher Young; very special friends Paul and Sandy Bates of Bella Vista, Ala., as well as a host of other close relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Brigadier General Alonzo Dougherty; her parents; a sister, Jean Elizabeth Jackson; a brother Landon Jackson III; and son Corneilus Aaron Dougherty.
The Celebration of Life will be 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, June 15, 2017 at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Burial will be 12:30 p.m. Friday, at Leavenworth National Cemetery. All are welcome to come and fellowship. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that you make a contribution to the
