Mary Louise Gwartney, 94, of Easton, Kan., passed away, July 9, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.
Mary Louise Gwartney, 94, of Easton, Kan., passed away, July 9, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 24, 1923, the daughter of James and Agnes (Schmidt) Herken.
On June 30, 1942, Mary married her high school sweetheart, Donald Charles “Pete” Gwartney. They just recently celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary. He survives at the home. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Mary was a dedicated mother. She is survived her four children, David (Juanita) Gwartney, Kathy (Ben) Tarbe, Douglas (Jacque) Gwartney, and Dennis (Cheryl) Gwartney; and “Nana” to her 13 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren.
Mary’s life was guided by her Catholic faith, her devotion to our Blessed Mother, her husband, her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and her community. She was always one to be of service to others. She and her husband enjoyed many years as members of the Jim Beam Bottle Club. They loved the fellowship and the many places throughout the United States they traveled. Their high school friendships were ones that span a lifetime filled with many treasured “good time” memories. She was an avid KU basketball fan. She was a lifetime member of St. Lawrence Church and St. Lawrence Altar Society.
Visitation beginning with the rosary will be Thursday, July 13, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. at St. Lawrence Church. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, at St. Lawrence Church. Burial will follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery. Memorials in Mary’s memory are suggested to St. Lawrence Church, Remembering Justin, Inc. or Remembering Alyssa, Inc.
