William “Bill” N. Swartz 73, of Leavenworth, passed away at home on Friday, July 14, 2017 surrounded by his family.

William “Bill” N. Swartz 73, of Leavenworth, passed away at home on Friday, July 14, 2017 surrounded by his family.
He was born August 16, 1943 to the late Edward and Lela Swartz in Junction City, Kansas.
He is survived by his wife, Pat Swartz, of 54 years, two sons, William Kriss (Cheryl) Swartz, Marcus (Carrie) Swartz, two daughters, Shelly Swartz and Katherine (Chuck) Frakes, ten grandchildren and one great grandchild. He is also survived by one brother Ronald (Carol) Swartz and three sisters, Diane (Dennis) Nixon, Cheryl (Julius) Matto and Joyce (Don) Bachtel, as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
Bill started his teaching career in 1965 in Corona, California before moving back to Leavenworth to teach math, coach football, and teach driver’s education at Leavenworth High School. He opened his own private driver’s education school in Leavenworth in 1982.
After retirement he continued teaching in Lansing Kansas, Weston Missouri, and the School of New Beginnings in Lansing. He had a gift for teaching and especially enjoyed working with the students at New Beginnings.  
He was a member of the National Education Association, the National Drivers Education Association and was a long time member of the First Christian Church in Leavenworth Kansas.
His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family and grandchildren while camping, fishing and traveling.  
A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ at 6th and Seneca, Leavenworth, Kansas.           
The Celebration of Life service will be held Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at 10 a.m. at the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, at 6th and Seneca, Leavenworth Kansas.  
Interment will follow the service on Wednesday at the Mount Muncie Cemetery Chapel at 1500 North 8th Street (Hwy 5), Lansing, Kansas.
Arrangements are being made through Davis Funeral Chapel, 531 Shawnee, Leavenworth.
Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church.
