Fred A. Zima, 80, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 29, 2017. While residing at Village Villa Nursing Home in Nortonville, Kansas, he passed of congestive heart failure.
On May 16, 1937 Fred was born to Louis and Martha Zima in David City, Nebraska. Fred enlisted into the United States Navy on May 16, 1959. He served proudly during Vietnam until he retired.
He is survived by his loving wife of 11 years Esther Zima, five sons, and 12 grandchildren.
Fred's hobbies were fishing, watching the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs play, and playing the accordion. Fred’s passion was serving as a Chaplain for over 20 years for the Disabled Veterans of America and Volunteering at the VA Medical Center in Leavenworth with over 25,000 volunteer hours. Selfless he was, he traveled all over the state of Kansas with his wife, Esther, assisting fellow veterans. He was a lifetime member of the following service organizations: Disabled Veterans of America, American Legion, 40/8, Trench RATS, and NAMI.
Visitation with Rosary will be 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 4, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
