Charlene Porter, formerly of Basehor, Kansas, passed away Sept. 6, 2017 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center, the age of 82.

Charlene Porter, formerly of Basehor, Kansas, passed away Sept. 6, 2017 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center, the age of 82.
A memorial service followed by a visitation will be held Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Wallula Christian Church, Leavenworth Kansas, where she was a lifelong member.
Charlene was born October 30, 1934 in Piper, Kansas to Edward and Edith Douglas. She graduated from Piper High School in 1952.
During her lifetime she was a homemaker, and mother of five children. She worked as a secretary for the Boilermaker’s International Union, Kansas City, Kansas, supported her husband, Henry, operating a milk delivery route, and later as school secretary and Board of Education clerk for the Basehor School District, retiring in 1996.
Charlene served many roles in church and social groups over the years. In recent years she enjoyed supporting and participating in the many social activities at Shawnee Hills Senior Living and Brookdale Assisted Living facilities.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Henry Porter, and parents Ed and Edith Douglas.
Surviving family members include five children and spouses, Loretta Habig (Calvin), Ronald Porter (Laura), Douglas Porter (Denise), Kenneth Porter (Karen), Peggy Reaser (Douglas), brother John O. Douglas (Phyllis), 19 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Parkinson’s Foundation (Heartland Chapter), or Manhattan Christian College, Manhattan, Kansas.
