Ret. Lieutenant Michael Warren Beck, 75, of Lansing, departed from this life, Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017. He was born Aug. 17, 1942, in Olney, Ill., the son of Harvel and Esther (Baldwin) Beck.
On June 14, 1969, Michael married the love of his life, Lynda Piggott. He is survived by his devoted wife and daughter, Desiree, of the home; two sons, Steven (Lisa) Beck of Basehor, Kan. and Scott (Kelly) Beck of Leavenworth; a sister, Martha (David) Jordan of Grayville, Ill.; four grandchildren, Gunner Beck, Ryan Gean, Catherine Gean and Morgan Beck; and two great-grandchildren, Isabella and Jon.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Michael served in the U.S. Air Force. In 1974, Michael and Lynda moved to Leavenworth, Kan. Soon after, Michael joined the Leavenworth Police Department. During his time with the department, Michael started the Kansas Juvenile Officers Association, Fraternal Order of Police and the Big Brothers Big Sisters programs for Leavenworth. In addition, he was sent to numerous schools for police studies and trained in hypnosis. In 1996, Michael retired and was inducted into the Police Officers Hall of Fame.
Over the years, Michael and Lynda fostered, loved and cared for many children and help several families throughout their community. To many he was known as their “Hero” to them, as well as to his family.
He was an exceptional man who dedicated his life to raising his family and watching it grow from children, to grandchildren, to great-grandchildren. He will truly be missed by all and will never be forgotten.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home. Burial with honors will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Beck family for funeral expenses.
