Dana Louise Mikado-Nwalu, 59, peacefully departed this life, on her way to her heavenly home, on September 20, 2017 at North Kansas City Hospital.
Dana was born on April 21, 1958, in Leavenworth, Kansas the daughter of Ruth Ella Browning-McDaniel and Warren Harding McDaniel. Dana graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1976, and soon after graduation, she moved to Oklahoma City. While in Oklahoma, she attended University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Oklahoma and obtained her Master’s Degree in Chemical Dependency. It was in Oklahoma she met Leonard Mikado-Nwalu and they became the proud parents of two daughters and one son. Dana loved being a mom and grandma and was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren. They were the loves of her life.
Dana moved with her family to Kansas City in the mid-90s’s to support her husband’s career and to raise her children. As her children grew, she went to work for Vocational Services Inc., and helped consumers with disabilities in the work place. Dana enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, watching westerns and cooking (she was known for her spicy African “stew”).
Dana was loving, funny, sweet and compassionate and would help anyone that she could. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Leonard Mikado-Nwalu; her beloved children; Delayna (Jay) Smith, Alexis Mikado and Prince Mikado; her three grandchildren, A’raeya, Zariah and Makai Smith; five sisters, Gloria McDaniel, Warren Major, Ruth Agboga, Annette Dodd and Ruta (Kelvin) Jamison and one brother, Ronald McDaniel; three aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins too numerous to count or mention.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father and a sister, Shirley Smith. Dana was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Platte City, Missouri and she always acknowledged God’s grace in her life. She will truly be missed by her family and all that knew her.
Visitation is Wednesday, September 27, 2017 from 10-11 a.m. at the Second Baptist Church in Platte City, Missouri. Funeral services and a repast will follow visitation.
