Nancy L. Kiser, 83, of Leavenworth, died, Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017, at Twin Oaks Assisted Living.

Nancy L. Kiser, 83, of Leavenworth, died, Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017, at Twin Oaks Assisted Living. She was born Jan. 23, 1934, in Kansas City, Kan., to Donald B. Cockrum and Ruth M. (Craddock) Cockrum Reeves.
She attended schools in Kansas City, Kan., Kansas City, Mo., Platte City, Mo. and graduated from Leavenworth High School with the class of 1952. After graduation, she worked several years at Fort Leavenworth in the Transportation Office, Ordinance Office and the Outpatient Clinic at Lowe Hall Station Hospital.
On July 10, 1954, Nancy married Samuel Hale Kiser, III at the Old Cathedral Church of the Immaculate Conception. She is survived by a sister, Donna Jane Bailey; her children, S. H. Kiser, IV of San Antonio, Texas, Gerald Kent Kiser and wife Melissa of Entiat, Wash., Laurie Leigh Kiser Daniels and husband Zen of Leavenworth; and one grandson, Austin Hale Kiser, of Entiat, Wash.
She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; a sister, Judith Kay Benn; and one infant daughter, Katherine Lynn Kiser.
Nancy was known by her friends and family as a lover of music. She studied guitar as a young child and enjoyed performing in the Kansas City/Leavenworth area. Her instructor formed an orchestra, composed of all of his students, and they played music for dances. The money they earned was used to take the group on trips all over the United States and Canada. When Nancy was seven, she was part of the group that went to Niagara Falls, N.Y. Two years later, the group took another trip to Chicago, Ill., where they performed on a radio program. This was the last trip they could make because it was during WWII and all means of travel was reserved for our friends in the military.
In 1965, she and her family moved back to Leavenworth. While living in KC she was encouraged to teach guitar lessons. It was her pleasure to resume teaching after returning to Leavenworth, Kan.
She was a member of PEO, PTA and a den mother for the Leavenworth Cub Scouts.
