Gilbert “Craig” Neidig, 67, of Leavenworth, died, Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, after a battle with cancer.
Gilbert “Craig” Neidig, 67, of Leavenworth, died, Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, after a battle with cancer. He was born May 10, 1950, in Ponca City, Oklahoma to George Neidig and Norma Jean Neidig (Who later married Darrell Joseph Sinette).
In 1996, Craig married Aida Basil. She survives at the home. He is also survived by their combined family including his son, Derek Neidig; Aida’s daughter and sons, Jacqueline Nugent and partner Bryan Messick, Chris Strnad and wife Jelena and Ricky Streight; his stepchildren from a previous marriage, Donna Charpia and Brenda Robertson; a brother, Jeff Neidig; nine grandchildren Sophie Marie Messick, Iva Strnad, Leah Strnad, Theo Neidig, Nathan Robertson, Michael Robertson, Maranda McCauley, Chelsea Charpia and Brelind Charpia; nephew, Brian Neidig; sister-in-law, Judy Morgan and husband, Kevin; niece, Cheryl Lemon and husband, Dan; and two great-nieces, Corrine and Kelela Lemon.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kevin Neidig.
Craig received numerous military decorations while serving in the U.S. military. After retiring from the Navy he continued in civil service to the U.S. government. Craig enjoyed walks on Coronado Island, traveling, sailing, computers/technology and spending time with grandkids.
A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Disabled American Veterans Charity (D.A.V.).
