It is with great sadness that the family of Francis “Fritz” Gail Hall, 90, announces his passing away Jan. 9, 2018, in Edwardsville, Kan.
It is with great sadness that the family of Francis “Fritz” Gail Hall, 90, announces his passing away Jan. 9, 2018, in Edwardsville, Kan. He was born March 12, 1927, in Ellwood City, Penn., the son of Harry Lee Hall, Sr. and Helen Marie (Sias) Hall.
Fritz attended Lincoln High School in Ellwood City, Penn. He enlisted in the United States Navy in January 1945 and served as a Radar Operator on U.S.S. Herbert J. Thomas, D.D. 833. He served as a member of the U.S. Navy Reserve until September 1948.
On Dec. 27, 1946, Fritz married June Louise Smith, in Ellwood City. She preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Harry Jr., Jim, Elmer and Fredrick (his twin); four sisters, Catherine Britton, Jean Raybould, Ruth Arkett and Shirley Britton; and an infant daughter, Sandra Rae.
He left the reserves to enroll in the Reserve Officer Training Corps at the University of Pittsburgh where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Quartermaster Corps, June 14, 1950. He retired from the Army in 1970 as a Lieutenant Colonel after quartermaster and field artillery assignments in the United States, Europe, Taiwan, and Vietnam. During his career, LTC Hall received numerous awards and decorations including the Legion of Merit. Fritz pursued a second career selling insurance in Colorado Springs, Colo. and Deland, Fla.
Wherever he lived he was active in Sertoma International Chapters as well as local Southern Baptist church congregations. Fritz was always a jovial conversationalist and a morning person – often breaking into song at the breakfast table. He enjoyed spending time with family, fishing, gardening, coconut crème pie, PeeWee’s hotdogs, and the outdoors.
Fritz is survived by his sisters, Ella Mae Kimpel and Charlotte (Samuel) Colmery; daughter, Victoria (Ron) Davids; son, DuWayne Hall; four grandchildren, Andrew Davids, Frederick Davids, Rachel Dawson and Amber Hall; 11 great-grandchildren, Jordan, Scott, Victoria, Cassandra, Andrew Michael, Trevor, Tyler, and Colin Davids and Noah, Eli and Lucas Dawson.
A graveside service will begin at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018, at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to R.L. Leintz Funeral Home.
