Harold Alfred Schermbeck, 94, of Leavenworth, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018.
Harold Alfred Schermbeck, 94, of Leavenworth, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018. He was born Aug. 12, 1923, in Leavenworth, the son of Edward and Helen (White) Schermbeck.
He was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Leavenworth and publicly confessed his faith in Jesus as his Lord and Savior through his Confirmation at St. Paul on April 15, 1936. His Confirmation verse was, “Delight yourself also in the Lord and He shall give them the desires of thine heart.” Psalms 37:4. Harold’s life reflected that delight. He faithfully attended church and was active at various times as an officer.
On Aug. 14, 1949, he married Anna Hermine Cowling at First Presbyterian Church in Leavenworth. They were members of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Leavenworth. Harold and Anna lived their entire married life on their farm in Leavenworth County where they raised four children.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Clarence Schermbeck and a granddaughter, Lindsey Nicole Knapp.
He is survived by his wife Anna of Leavenworth; brother, Edward and Betty Schermbeck of Leavenworth; his children, John (Linda K.) Schermbeck of Leavenworth, Linda R. (Danny) Schwinn of Easton, Robert (Robin) Schermbeck of Elk Creek, Neb. and Carol (Robert) Knapp of Madison, Neb., 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one on the way.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church with son, Rev. Robert Schermbeck and grandson, Rev. Andrew Schermbeck presiding. Casket bearers will be; Randy Schwinn, Timothy Schermbeck, Andrew Schermbeck, Cody Knapp, Ethan Knapp and Rick Schwinn. Burial will follow at Mount Muncie Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Mission Central LCMS World Mission, 40718 Hwy East 16, Mapleton, IA 51034.
