Dr. Larry L. Blackman, PhD, formerly of Leavenworth, died on January 13, 2018, in Rochester, New York, at the age of 76.

Dr. Larry L. Blackman, PhD, formerly of Leavenworth, died on January 13, 2018, in Rochester, New York, at the age of 76. From his birth until 1963 Leavenworth was his home. He graduated the University of Kansas with a major in philosophy and a minor in theology. After studying theology for a year at the University of Marburg, West Germany, he continued his education at Union Theological Seminary in New York City and received his Master of Divinity in May of 1968. He then earned his PhD in philosophy from the University of Minnesota in 1976. He retired in 2011 as a full Professor in the Philosophy Department from the State University of New York at Geneseo, New York. He was interested in genealogy and gave numerous talks in addition to publishing a book on his maternal line.  
Larry was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Mayflower Descendants. He was an avid golfer and won his club championship in 1969. 
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon C. Blackman and Marion Timberlake Blackman and is survived by his wife, Fran, son Jonathan, daughter Meredith, stepson Matthew Michel, his sister Marilyn Blackman Pearl and many beloved friends.
