Robert Bernard Highsmith, 70, of Leavenworth, died, Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, at his home.

Robert Bernard Highsmith, 70, of Leavenworth, died, Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, at his home. He was born April 21, 1947, in Camden, Ark., the son of George Williams and Robert J. and Effie (Armstrong) Highsmith.
On July 5, 1969, Robert married Brenda Dyann Murphy in Camden, Ark. She survives at the home. He is also survived by a daughter, Millicent Highsmith; two sons, Darius “Marc” (Patricia “Vicki”) Highsmith Sr. and Roderick (Deonca) Highsmith; five grandchildren, Ravyn, Darius II, McKayla, McKenzy and McKenna “Riley” Highsmith; five sisters, Ruthie Starling, Donna Williams, Judy Williams, Danielle Williams and Lisa Rhodes; four brothers, Eugene Hawkins, Harold Highsmith, Darin Williams and Sean (Yolanda) Bradford; a brother-in-law, Cleveland “Rip” (Evelyn) Murphy; a sister-in-law, Rebecca Murphy; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Georgia Baugh; and a brother-in-law, Marcus Murphy.
He was post commander of the Andrew Newton post 94. Robert was a Deacon at Pentecostal Church of the Apostolic Faith, Inc. He was the project manager for the church, the “Kitchen Chief” (head of the kitchen committee), on the pantry staff and involved in several community organizations. He was also a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church for 15 years.
Robert was an M.P. in Fort Bragg, Fort Leavenworth and Fort Riley where he retired as a SFC in 1991. He also retired from Lansing Correction Facility in 2007.
 A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, at Pentecostal Church of the Apostolic Faith, Inc.
