Marveta M. Turner, 89, of Leavenworth, died, Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018, at Saint John Hospital.
Marveta M. Turner, 89, of Leavenworth, died, Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018, at Saint John Hospital. She was born April 2, 1928, in Graham, Missouri, the only child of Marvin and Blanche (Younger) Mowry.
She graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1946. After high school she worked at the Dairy Maid restaurant in Leavenworth where she met her future husband, Charles.
On Sept. 25, 1948, Marveta married Charles R. Turner at the First Christian Church in Leavenworth. He preceded her in death in 2008 after 59 years of marriage.
She worked at Leavenworth High School as an attendance clerk and guidance secretary. After retirement, Marveta and Charles enjoyed traveling the United States on many bus tours, while wearing sunflower patches so everyone would know they were from Kansas.
Marveta was a member of First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed bowling, bird watching, sewing, playing cards with her many friends and making dolls. Marveta loved animals and flowers.
She is survived by two daughters, Debbie (Rick) Sherretts and Cheryl (Ernest) Allen; two sons, Gregory (Lynn) Turner and Jeffrey (Teresa) Turner; eight grandchildren, Kimberly (Brian) Anderson, Rachel Johnson, Marcus (Sarah) Sherretts, Amanda Sherretts, Adam (Jenny) Turner, Margeruite (Clinton) Culbertson, Joshua Allen and Jacob Allen; 18 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Leavenworth Animal Welfare Society (L.A.W.S.) or First United Methodist Church.
