Charlotte Bayer, Leavenworth, Kansas, died peacefully, July 4, 2018 surrounded by her family. Visitation will be held at Davis Funeral Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10, 2018. Services will be on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Damian Snyder officiating and Ronald Romig assisting. A private burial will be in the Ft. Leavenworth Kansas National Cemetery, Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the William Steele Bayer Scholarship fund through USD 453 or Ascend Hospice, Overland Park, Kansas.
Charlotte was born in Paragould, Arkansas, the only daughter of Charles and Bertha Richardson. She graduated from Rolla High School, Rolla, Missouri and attended Southwest Missouri State College in Springfield, Missouri. She was a member of the Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority. While waitressing in the family restaurant, she met her future husband, Bill, while he was attending Missouri School of Mines. They married in 1951 and after Bill's commissioning as a 2nd lieutenant in 1953, embarked on a 28 year military career that took them all over the world. Charlotte was a very active military wife, joining the Officer's Wives Clubs and Protestant Women of the Chapel at each installation where they were assigned. In 1972, their final move was made to Leavenworth, where Charlotte was employed at Trans World Airline in Kansas City, retiring in 1992. After Bill's death in 1995, Charlotte was a house mother at the Delta Delta Delta Sorority at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas.
Charlotte was an active member in PEO, Chapter EN, the Panhellenic Council of Leavenworth, Philomathean Club and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Charlotte is survived by daughters, Linda Bayer and Patricia Klima, granddaughters, Emily and Mary Katherine Klima, brother and sister-in-law, Alfred and Margaret Richardson, numerous nieces and nephews, and good friend and companion Jim Beil.
