James Edward Carter, 68, Leavenworth, died, Friday, Aug. 3, 2018. He was born May 14, 1950, in Clinton, Missouri, the son of John and Mary (Carroll) Carter.
He is survived by his wife, George Ann Ross-Carter; a daughter, Mary Beth Conley, Sedalia, Missouri; three sons, James E. Carter II, Hays, Kansas, Chris Carter, Wyandotte, Kansas, and Brian Carter, Parkville, Missouri; a stepson, Tony Drooge ,Wyandotte, Kansas; five sisters, Jonetta Ferguson, Mary Carter, Denise Johnson, Carole Zeno and Dee Reilly; three brothers, John Carter, Rick Carter and Michael Carter; and 12 grandchildren.
James was preceded in death by his parents; his grandmother, Florine Avery; a brother, Tom; and two sisters, Pat and Alicia.
He served two tours in Vietnam. During his time in the U.S. Army he was awarded two Silver Stars, a Bronze Star and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm.
A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13, 2018, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home.
