Albert Lee Bacon, 86, of Leavenworth, died, Friday, Oct. 12, 2018, at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
Albert Lee Bacon, 86, of Leavenworth, died, Friday, Oct. 12, 2018, at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He was born July 14, 1932, in Fairfax, Missouri, the son of Alva B. and Fostine (Gullege) Bacon.
Albert served in the U.S. Army from 1949 to 1952.
On July 5, 1952, Albert married Lois Maxine Walters in Wolcott, Kansas. She preceded him in death Feb. 4, 2015. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Nelda Sue DesPain and Phyllis Jean Duncan; and two brothers, Alva B. Bacon Jr. and George Bacon.
Albert was a lifelong resident of Leavenworth. He was a mechanic for TWA and retired after 35 years of service in 1988.
Over the years, Albert enjoyed countless hobbies including woodworking, traveling on his motorcycle with his wife Lois by his side. He was an active member of the Retreads Motorcycle Club. He also enjoyed driving the school bus for Lansing School District #469 and taking all of the kids to their afterschool activities.
Albert is survived by a son, Dennis (Linda) Bacon, of South Carolina; a daughter, Vickie Montgomery of Leavenworth; three grandchildren, Lashaun (Stephen) Oliver Jr. of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Danielle (Glen) Baker of Easton, Kansas, and James (Shanna) Bacon of South Carolina; eight great-grandchildren; Kali and Ashlynn Boydston, Will Oliver, Tristen, Wyatt and Laney Baker and Cody and Colten Bacon; three brothers, Eddie (Irene) Bacon, Bill (Donna) Bacon and Bobbie Bacon; and two sisters, MaryAnn Anders and Beverly Gregory.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, 2018, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 3 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home. Albert will be cremated and laid to rest alongside his wife, Lois, at Leavenworth National Cemetery at a later date.
