Larry D. Beamon, 67, of Lansing, died, Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018, at Kansas City Hospice House.
Larry D. Beamon, 67, of Lansing, died, Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018, at Kansas City Hospice House. He was born July 18, 1951, in Harperville, Mississippi, the son of Dewitt and Everlyn (MacDonald) Beamon.
Larry attended North Scott High School where he was the Senior Class President and Alcorn State University where he was involved in the ROTC program.
He is survived by two daughters, Lacey B. Abdel-Khaliq and Lindsay Beamon-Scott; a son, Larry D. Beamon II; two grandchildren, Mikail Abdel-Khaliq Jr. and Laila Abdel-Khaliq; two sisters, Vinnie May Wade and Dianne Beamon Davis; five brothers, George L. Beamon, Marshall Beamon, Bobby Beamon, Lonzie Beamon and Dwight Beamon; and two longtime friends, Marcell Forst and Randy Terrel.
Larry was a signal Officer for the United States Army, earning the rank of Captain. During his time in the military he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon and an Overseas Service Ribbon. After leaving the Army he was employed at the Department of Army as a Telecommunication Specialist for over 20 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Robert Beamon and West Lee Beamon.
Larry was a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. He enjoyed traveling the world and going fishing whenever he got the chance to return home to Mississippi. He also loved to watch western and martial art movies and spend time with his grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20 ,2018, at Midway Missionary Baptist Church in Forest, Mississippi. Arrangements in care of R.L. Leintz Funeral Home.
