The Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth mourn the loss of Sister Ann Donovan, 88, who died on Sunday, August 29, 2010 at Ross Hall, Mother House, Leavenworth, KS.
Ann Regina Donovan was born on August 5, 1922 in Dorchester, MA, the youngest of six children of William A. and Mary E. McGilvery Donovan.  She graduated from St. Ann School, Neponset, MA and St. Thomas High School, Jamaica Plain, MA and entered the religious community of the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth on August 20, 1953.  Given the name Sister William Mary, she made her profession of vows on August 22, 1955. Later, she returned to the use of her baptismal name.
After profession, Sister taught at parochial schools in California, Kansas, and Montana.  After her teaching career, Sister engaged in secretarial work and as a clinical lab clerk typist.  Sister Ann received a B.S. in Education from Saint Mary College, Leavenworth, KS.
Survivors include nieces, nephews, friends, and her SCL Community.
A vigil will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at Ross Chapel of the Sisters of Charity Mother House in Leavenworth where friends may call after 4:00 p.m.  The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Ross Chapel on Thursday, Sept. 2, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery on the Mother House grounds. R. L. Leintz Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Retirement Fund, 4200 South 4th ST, Leavenworth, KS 66048.
