George Floyd Currier
71, Barstow, CA
George Currier, formerly from Leavenworth and a Barstow, CA resident for 57 years died peacefully at his son’s home in Aztec, NM on August 8, 2010.
George, son of Greg and Gertrude Currier was born at Ft. Leavenworth on March 10, 1939.
On July 30, 1966, he married Janet Lowe. This union produced three sons: Mike and Bill of Barstow and John of Aztec. George and Jan recently celebrated their 44th anniversary.
After a career spanning 29 years, George retired in 2004 as a shop manager for Yellow Freight. After retirement, George colunteered at the Western American Railroad Museum and also served as membership chairman.
An avid golfer, George was a member of Sun adn Sky Golf Club. He enjoyed off-road auto and motorcycle racing. However, his special interest was spending time with family, friends, and especially grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by his parent, brother Greg, sisters Mary Ann, Pat, and Anita.
Survivors include wife, Janet; sons, Mike and wife Julie, Bill, and John and wife, Amber; brothers, Jim and wife Mary Anne of Overland Park, KS, Mike and wife Vicky of C orona, CA; a special uncle, Jack and wife, Daphne, of Chula Vista, CA; grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Catholic memorial service, conducted by Deacon Margo Saenz with additional comments from George’s brother, Mike Currier, was held in Barstow on August 20, 2010.
