Christel R. Weems, 69, of Leavenworth, passed away peacefully Saturday morning Aug. 28, 2010, at Medicalodge following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born, June 28, 1941, in Edigheim, Ludwigshafen, Germany the daughter of Rainald and Elisabet (Herder) Riede.
Christel was the wife of U.S. Army retired Sergeant Major Clyde Weems Jr., whom she married on Feb, 20, 1959. He survives at the home. She is also survived by her son, Lorenz C. Weems of the home; two daughters, Patricia A. Buselt and Shirley G. (Michael) Collins both of Leavenworth; three granddaughters, Samuela P. (Josh) Hebert of St. Paul, Minn., Elisabeth (Morris) Pointer of Leavenworth and Keturah F. Buselt of Leavenworth; two grandsons, Matthew Collins and Jonathan Collins both of Leavenworth; one great-grandson, Jordan Hebert; a great-granddaughter, Angelina Hebert of St. Paul, Minn.; and two sisters-in-law, Pastoria Weems and Vania Weems of Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Christel worked for the Army and Air Force exchange service for several years.
The family will receive friends from 11 till noon Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at noon Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the Weems family at cweems@lvnorth.com
