To the editor:

Your Aug. 31 Kansas City Star editorial says that Sen. Chuck Schumer (NY-D) might try to attach the disbanding of the federal Election Integrity Commission to the so-called must-pass debt ceiling legislation. Schumer’s threat is a disappointment but not a surprise. Democrats are not for integrity in the voting booth. Both Democrats and Republicans know why.

The people’s legislators in Texas and North Carolina passed laws to ensure voter ID and to restrict illegal voting. That the courts said no in those states shows only how corrupt the courts are. Courts are not to make law, legislators are. Courts are supposed to see that the laws passed are followed.

Kansans are not worried about Kris Kobach being secretary of state or running for governor. We’d be more worried about court interference with our effort to clean up our registration polls and preclude illegal voting.
