To the editor:
Here’s why I think that John Dalbey would be a superb choice for the Lansing school board.
I have worked with John and we have been friends for more than four years in the educational and leader development context of the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth. In that capacity I have observed how John interacts with others in an educational environment while demonstrating a drive to develop others. John enters every endeavor in which he engages demonstrating the calling to leave every situation better than he found it. John possesses the skills, experience and passion to be an outstanding USD 469 school board member.
Some might think that because of John’s military background that he is an autocratic leader. This is just not true. John excels at building bridges between diverse perspectives. He has diplomatic skills and a desire to gain input from diverse perspectives and build consensus. John listens and hears the perspectives of others and helps other members of the group come to a unified approach.
John’s experience leading others for the last 27 years is a strength for service on the school board. John is an experienced planner with 19 years of experience planning in complex environments to build solutions that will work. John possesses a master’s in management with seven years of experience as an educator. John not only understands the educational context, he has excelled at teaching others.
John’s abilities to contribute to group work building solutions, his extensive education and leadership in planning and his demonstrated commitment to the education of children make him a clear choice as a school board member for USD 469. I encourage Lansing residents to elect John Dalbey to the school board for our children who will lead us into the future.
