To the editor:
We have an elected Board of Education for Leavenworth USD 453. But it is the administration that is pushing yet another school building bond. Seems we have a 20-year bond to renew every 10 years.
If we have to hire a professional like DLR to “sell” us on a bond issue, then we don’t need it. Ms. Beverlin of DLR makes some strange recommendations on where we should spend our school tax dollars. It would be better to rely on locals, especially Nancy Klemp and Loyal Torkelson, who would know about our needs.
We need more board members who understand that our elected people, not the administrators we hire, are to run the school district. What happened to last fall’s plan for building up teaching and learning? Let’s earn our facilities by concentrating on students reaching proficiency in serious subjects like math and English.
