To the editor:
I read with great interest the article of July 23, regarding the candidates’ forum. What I was hoping to read were specific answers to specific problems, but that’s not what we got.
We got the same old lines, repeated over and over again. Taxes are too high. The lines of communication aren’t working, governments are spending too much of our money. What I would like to see and what voters are entitled to are specific solutions to specific problems. Not generic lines repeated over and over again.
If our taxes are too high, then how much too high? What taxes, all taxes? Personal property, sales, school, fire? Which ones? Please be more specific.
Governments are spending too much? Where and how too much? Are salaries too high? Are they spending on equipment they don’t need? Where is the problem? Are they wasting money on our roads, parks and garbage pick up? Do we have too any police officers, firemen, and street workers?
Please be more specific.
Tell us when you think you will have cut taxes enough. What’s the goal? At what point will we no longer be paying too much?
Will it be when our children can no longer compete in the global world in which we live because there aren’t enough teachers and they are using outdated books and equipment?
How about when we call for police and fire and it takes too long for them to come to our assistance. Or maybe after a winter storm, when we still can’t get around after three days. Tell us now.
If you believe there are problems in communicating with our governments, what is the solution? Be specific please.
To all candidates running for office, stop insulting our intelligence and give us real answers to the problems facing us today. No more generic party lines. Give us real solutions to real problems and stop wasting our time with the same old junk.
How much energy, ink and paper is being wasted on all of you telling us the same thing over and over again?
