To the editor:
Before I started managing Todd Tiahrt’s campaigns in 2001, I managed Jerry Moran’s first Congressional campaign in 1996.
Congressman Moran is a nice man, and he has a great family. However, having seen both men under pressure and watching how they approach their jobs, I know Kansans and conservatives across the country need Todd Tiahrt in the U.S. Senate.
Congressman Moran tries to avoid confrontation, which is seen as a virtue by many. He was recently re-elected in the 2008 general election with 91 percent of the vote. If our economy was robust, we were not involved in a war on terrorism and abortion was illegal, Congressman Moran would be a “safe” choice for Senate.
Unfortunately, our country is headed in the wrong direction under the leadership of President Obama, who Congressman Moran said was “easier to work with than President George Bush.”
Our country needs bold, conservative leadership. Todd Tiahrt will never be re-elected with 91 percent of the vote because he will upset the unions, the radical environmentalists and those who think the government knows how to spend your money better than you.
Todd Tiahrt holds a lifetime lead in all of the major national conservative scorecards, including the American Conservative Union, Club for Growth and Citizens Against Government Waste.
Even though these scorecards show Todd as the consistent conservative, they still cannot measure the fight in each of these men. That’s where you need to look at their records.
There are “Tiahrt Amendments” that have protected the unborn, secured your Second Amendment rights and prevented the government from destroying the U.S. cattle industry. There are no comparable “Moran Amendments.”
