United States citizens should realize that our country has succeeded for many years because of our form of government. That form is a republic, not a democracy as some people believe. Witness our pledge where we say “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the REPUBLIC for which it stands.” We have a constitution which is our supreme Law of the Land and it requires that we go by the rule of law, not the rule of man. This makes us a constitutional republic.
Citizens should know that the electoral college, an assembly of citizens called electors, is a constitutionally required system for formally electing our president/vice-president after the general election*. This system allows individual states to decide how their votes should be counted and most states decide to award all of their electoral votes to the winner in their state rather than awarding the votes proportionally to the various candidates.
A movement to circumvent the electoral college has been pursued in recent years by those who prefer a national popular vote. Currently such a movement is being spearheaded by Jonathan Soros, son of billionaire globalist George Soros, who is trying to convince states to join an unconstitutional compact. He would like to have the rule of man rather than law and completely ignores that his NPV Interstate Compact would violate our constitution**.
Jonathan hopes to get enough highly populated states with large electoral numbers to reach the 270 electoral votes required*** and declare a winner. If our leaders ignore our constitution and allow this to happen, it will disenfranchise the votes of Blacks, Hispanics, Jewish, farmers, and other minorities. Kansans and citizens from other states of low population would have the rug pulled from under their influence on presidential elections. This would be the “tyranny of the majority” over the minorities and small states that America’s founders guarded against. We must not let this happen.

*** 270 votes are required (½ + 1) There are 538 electors: one for each member of Congress (435-House of Representatives & 100-Senate plus three for Wash.D.C.). Kansas has six electors and no state has fewer than three. (54 words)
