Pioneers aim to rebound from disappointing losses
Leavenworth comes into Friday’s action with a 2-2 mark, having dropped two disappointing decisions in consecutive weeks heading into this contest.
Olathe Northwest (1-3) may not have the gaudy record, but it is no less a threat than the two teams that recently handed the Pioneers losses.
“It was a very disappointing loss to a Shawnee Mission South team that we were very capable of beating,” LVHS head coach Mark Littrell said of the 35-7 beating his team took a week ago. “We need to stay focused on every opponent and have a great week of practice.”
That will be especially key this weekend against an ONW team that is still a legitimate threat for most teams it plays.
“Olathe Northwest is a very good 1-3 team,” Littrell said. “They have lost to some really good teams, not only in the area but in the state with their loss to a highly ranked Goddard team. They run a 4-2-5 defense with a very good defensive line. They run a multiple offense going from a pro-2 back offense to a 4-5 wide offense.”
So what does Leavenworth have to do to win?
“We need to continue to improve on our offensive and defensive lines,” Littrell said. “We need to make sure that we are doing what we are supposed to do and to play assignment correct football.”
