Basehor-Linwood right-hander Chase Torkelson dominated on the mound as the Bobcats downed Lansing 5-0 in the first game of a Kaw Valley League doubleheader Wednesday.
Torkelson tossed a three-hit shutout to lead the Bobcats in the last day of the league race.
Torkelson walked only three batters and did not allow a Lansing baserunner to third base until the seventh inning.
Lansing’s bats were quiet until the fifth inning. Alex Russell stroked a clean single to left to break up Torkelson’s no-hitter.
The Lions got an infield hit and another single through the left side, but were unable to score when they lost two runners on the bases.
The Lions staged a bit of a rally in the seventh when Caleb Adams reached on a walk and Claye Howard was hit by a pitch. Another walk loaded the bases but the Lions were unable to plate any runs.
The Bobcats got all they would need in the second inning when Torkelson singled and scored on a double to right by Jackson Jennings.
Mason Capper knocked in a run with a single in the third inning to give the Bobcats a 2-0 lead.
Basehor-Linwood added three more runs in the seventh to blow the game open. Torkelson singled in a run and Matt McKnight delivered a run-scoring double. Jennings followed with a run-scoring single.
Torkelson and Jennings finished with three hits each to lead the Bobcats’ 12-hit attack.
Basehor-Linwood won the second game 13-3.
