The Geiger Ready-Mix Cardinals lost the first two games of the season as the baseball team began Junior Legion play.
The Cardinals fell to Doniphan County 14-3 and 24-0 in a doubleheader Tuesday night at Sportsfield Park.
Despite the losses, coach Bruce Simpson is optimistic about the young team.
“It was a very positive learning experience,” Simpson said. “The errors we made were errors that we can work on to improve as the season goes on.”
The team of 13- to 15-year-old boys will have to shake the loss off quickly with another doubleheader Friday at home with the first game beginning at 6 p.m.
Simpson continues the optimistic view on the team going forward.
“This is a young team looking to play with the big boys,” Simpson said. “This team will get better as the season goes on.”
