The Pleasant Ridge Rams volleyball team is excited about the upcoming season. With their shirts saying “#OurYear,” the team is ready to make a splash in Joy Ewert’s second season coaching the squad.
After having a young team in 2017 and only losing one senior, Ewert expects the team to have strong leadership to lead the Rams to a successful 2018 season.
“We feel like we are pretty much ready to go this year,” Ewert said.
The team also uses the word “yet” as motivation as they have not made it to the level they want to be yet.
The Rams will be ready to go achieve “yet” with one of the biggest Rams volleyball teams in quite some time with 29 players. Ewert feels like all of the nine returning players and four seniors from last year’s squad are the key players. Some of the key players include Julie Miller, and Haley and Hanna Forge. Another key returner is sophomore Bailey Ko, who led Kansas in digs in 2017 as a freshman.
“I think this year will be how well we work together,” Ewert said. “Last year, with me being a new coach, we were just running stuff. This year we are really putting it together.”
With an experienced and talented team, the Rams volleyball team looks to compete against tough competition. The team is looking forward to their match against Valley Falls.
“It’s been a while since Pleasant Ridge has beaten Valley Falls,” Ewert said. “We at least think we will be able to give them a run for their money this season.”
The Rams are set to start the year at 5 p.m. Tuesday against Oskaloosa and McLouth at home.
