The leadership of the seniors on the Lansing Lions volleyball team continues to pay off.

On Tuesday night, the Lions continued their strong start to the season with wins over Turner and Basehor-Linwood.

After the 7-0 start, the Lions jumped up to being ranked second in 5A rankings by the Kansas Volleyball Association.

Lions coach Julie Slater had high praise for her leaders calling Rachel Fairbanks “fearless at the net” and Taylor Lang’s strong serving and passing.

Kennedy Farris, Brandi Basler, Miranda Karpierz and Sydney Hayles also all were praised for their play by the coach.

The Lions beat Turner 25-1 and 25-4 with Lang serving for 24 straight points in the first set. Against Basehor, the Lions won 25-14 and 25-21. Karli Schmidt led the team with 20 kills, Caitlin Bishop had 25 assists and Kennedy Farris led the way with seven digs.
