The Lansing Lions volleyball team continued the strong start to the season with successful matches last Thursday and Saturday.
On Thursday, the Lions beat Leavenworth 25-16 and 25-9. They also beat Turner 25-5 and 25-4.
“Leavenworth has a good, scrappy team and gave us a good battle the first set,” coach Julie Slater said. “They have some athletic and quality players on their team. Rachel Fairbanks, Bradi Basler, Karli Schmidt and Sam Moburg had a great night.”
Moburg led the team with 10 kills on the night and Fairbanks had nine. Basler and Schmidt both had six.
The success continued into Saturday when Lansing hosted their invitational.
The Lions got out of their pool with victories over Piper, Olathe West, Shawnee Mission West and Louisburg to improve to 13-0 going into the semifinal.
The Lions would suffer their first loss of the season against Seaman in three sets. Slater said it was a great reality check for the team. In the third-place game, the Lions bounced back and beat De Soto.
“I was happy with the way we responded after our first loss,” Slater said.
The Lions are now 14-1 on the year.
