Playing against one of the premier teams in the Delaware Valley League Friday, the Pleasant Ridge girls’ basketball squad had quite a challenge.
While the Lady Rams tried to slow down the 13-1 Lady Chargers early, and were successful, eventually the home team began to pull away. By the final buzzer, JCN topped PR 63-29.
“They are really good,” Ridge coach Mike Koontz said. “I thought we played well in the first half and for the longest time we kept up with them in the first quarter, but they hit some 3-pointers to pull away.”
With two minutes to go in the opening quarter, Pleasant Ridge trailed 8-6. But then came a 11-2 Lady Chargers run to end the period and in the second, the home team added six more points to its advantage to be up 32-15 at half.
The third quarter is where JCN really blew open the contest by outscoring the Lady Rams 20-5 and then coasted to the double-digit win in the fourth.
“Going into this game we talked about just getting better and in some aspects we got better,” Koontz said, “but overall, we still have a lot of work to do.”
Holly Ewert was the team’s leading scorer with seven, followed by Ashten Langley’s five and Kelsey Carpenter, Jordan Adams and Abby Reed each put in four. Beth Doty had two points.
Ridge, 6-7 overall, will host Horton Tuesday at 6 p.m.
