The University of Saint Mary women’s soccer season ended in the first round of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament on Friday afternoon. The Lady Spires, making the tournament for the first time since 2007, found themselves down 2-0 by the break in a 4-1 loss to Southwestern College.

The Moundbuilders scored just two and a half minutes into the game and despite four shots by USM in the next 15 minutes the Spires couldn’t get the equalizer. Southwestern put in another goal with 23 minutes left until halftime to take a commanding lead.

Southwestern would score both their second-half goals in a four-minute span near the middle of the period, taking a 4-0 lead before Saint Mary was able to get on the board.

The Lady Spires would finally break through with just 17 minutes remaining in the contest, Meya Bizer scoring the lone USM goal in the contest.

For the game, Southwestern had 19 shots, 12 on goal, to 14 total shots and five shots on goal by Saint Mary. Bizer played the first half in goal and totaled five saves while Alex Rist played the second half and had two saves.
