The Lansing Reds gave up three runs in the top of the ninth to the Midwest Bruins on Tuesday, falling 10-7 despite leading through six innings and taking a 7-7 tie into the final frame. The Reds had two outs on the Bruins in the top of the ninth before three consecutive walks and a bloop single to shallow right field gave Midwest a 9-7 lead. A hit batter in the next at bat loaded the bases once again and the fourth walk of the inning made the score its final 10-7.
For Lansing, coach Jake Hanson said, getting that third out had been an issue at several points in the game.
“We just couldn’t get the third out in a few innings,” Hanson said. “Overall it was a pretty ugly ballgame.”
Lansing had taken a 5-2 lead after three innings. Parker Gibson was the first to cross the plate for the Reds, getting on base with a single and taking home on a passed ball. Zak Haller walked and scored on a balk and Kurt Weber capped a three-run first inning when he got on base with a single and scored on a passed ball.
