With its interior once again displaying its strength, the Pleasant Ridge boys basketball team kept its winning streak alive Tuesday.
The Rams, behind a team-high 20-point performance from forward Connor Culbertson, toppled visiting Troy 71-62 and in doing so extended its current winning streak to three games.
“Our bigs played really well for us again tonight,” PR coach Sean Murphy said. “We have won three in a row and that has really been the difference.”
A lot of points were scored in the opening quarter for each team, though Ridge was able to capture an early 24-20 edge at the period’s end. Things slowed down in the second, yet still the home team held firm and led 36-31 at half.
It was in the third that the Rams really opened up the contest and outscored the visitors 21-10. With a double-digit advantage in hand, PR relented a little in the fourth but never allowed Troy to make a serious run and took the nine-point win.
After Culbertson’s scoring output, Dalton Warden was next in line for Ridge with 18 points, followed by Caleb Morandy’s 14 and Cody Heim’s 12. Brandon Heim contributed seven points.
Pleasant Ridge, now 8-5 on the season, will travel to Jefferson County North Friday for a 7:30 p.m. game.
“We play at JCN Friday and that is going to be a big game,” Murphy said. “They are one of the top teams in our league and we have a chance to make a statement.”
