The Lansing High School football team had seven athletes earn Kaw Valley League honors for the 2011 season. Mike Miller led selections with places on both the first-team offense and the second-team defense. Litton Van Der Werff was named to the first-team defense, while James Howey, Nick Hughes and Brad Brown were named to the second-team offense. Cameron Trout was a second-team defense selection and Cole Taylor was named honorable mention on the defensive side of the ball.
Miller, a senior, was named first team as an interior lineman and second team as a defensive lineman. For the year, he had 44 total tackles — 30 solo and 14 assists — for an average of 4.4 per game. Miller also had three sacks, two fumble recoveries, one fumble caused, one passed deflection and one blocked punt.
Another senior, Van Der Werff was voted first team as a defensive back. He had 51 total tackles on the year, averaging 5.1 per game, and also had a sack and an interception.
Hughes, another senior for the Lions, took a place on the second team as a running back. He had 128 carries for 842 total yards, averaging 20 yards per game. He had three touchdowns running the ball and also had three receiving touchdowns after using 18 catches for 281 yards.
Junior place kicker Brown took a place on the second team after successfully kicking for 27 extra points and three field goals. He also had 51 kickoffs for a total of 1,937 yards including two touchbacks.
Trout, a senior, was second-team All-KVL as a linebacker. He totaled 46 tackles for an average of 5.1 per game and also had a fumble recovery on the season.
Seniors Howey and Taylor were both named all-league as linemen. Howey earned second team distinction as an interior lineman and Taylor was voted honorable mention as a defensive lineman. Taylor had 45 total tackles on the year, an average of five per game, and also had three sacks and a fumble recovery.
Lansing finished 5-5 on the year, getting knocked out of the 5A state playoffs by defending champion Blue Valley.
